In 2023, 27.2 million people aged 12 or older (or 9.6% of the population) had a drug use disorder in the past year, and 7.5 million people aged 12 or older (2.6%) had both an alcohol and drug use disorder (SAMHSA - National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH).


Provisional data shows about 87,000 persons in the U.S. died from drug-involved overdose from October 2023 to September 2024 (CDC’s National Vital Statistics System).
